Linux Virtual Machines

Run Linux on your computer without having to install it on your computer. Unlike LIVE Linux CDs Virtual Machines allow you to run Linux and other operating systems on top of your current operating system in a self contained window. You can make changes, save to the virtual hard disk, easily move it from system to system, and so much more!

These Virtual Machines make a great companion to the Linux Training Sets!

We don't mean to take the fun out of installing Linux onto a computer! We do understand that for some people this is a definite time and resource saver. Harnessing the power of the VMWARE Player we help you get up and running a variety of different Linux Operating systems in a few easy steps.

Both Packages include the installation file for the Free VMWare Player For Both Linux and Windows. Each set is only $11.99 with free shipping to the USA and Canada. Approximate file sizes are shown when the image is decompressed so you can get an idea of much free space will be required. If you are copying the file to your drive before decompressing the file you should take that into consideration as well.

Updated 03/13/06 - 7zip and WinRAR (Linux/Windows) has been added to the DVD. Thank you Bob for your suggestion!

If you have any suggestions to add any other utilities to either package please let us know.

VMWARE Player System Requirements:

For a typical host system, we recommend that you have a 400MHz or faster processor (500MHz recommended) and 128MB RAM minimum (256MB RAM recommended). You must have enough memory to run the host operating system, plus the memory required for each guest operating system and for applications on the host and guest. See your guest operating system and application documentation for their memory requirements. VMware Player requires approximately 150MB of disk space to install the application.

Easy as 1-2-3-4

Step One:

Copy the folder of the Linux Virtual Machine you would like to use from the CD or DVD that you receive from us to your hard drive.

Step Two:

Unzip the file that you have copied to your drive if necessary. (Some machines will come compressed, other will not, depending on the size).

Step Three:

Install the VMWare Player from the installation file in the VMWare Player folder on the DVD or CD that we have provided.

Step Four:

Open the VMWare Player and browse to the *.vmx file that you have uncompressed in the folder on your hard drive.

Tip! Adjust the memory allocation of the VMWare Player for better perfomance by clicking PLAYER>TROUBLESHOOT>CHANGE MEMORY ALLOCATION after you have completed the first four steps.

Unless specified otherwise in a text file that will be zipped with the file, the User and Password for the Linux Machine Machines is:

User: changeme

Password: pctech101

NOTE: We provide limited support for these Linux Virtual Machines. They are not guaranteed to run on every workstation.
